Today, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) formally included surfing as a gold medal sport in the Sports Programme for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Made famous in the early 90’s by acclaimed surf photographer John Callahan and pro-riders Taylor Knox and Evan Slater, Cloud 9 on Siargao Island has slowly progressed as an alternative surfing/vacation destination while holding true to its off-the-beaten path roots of past.  As Siargao has gained popularity over the years,  while locals have always shied away from a comparison to the fast paced and quick development of other Asian surf destinations.

Jammy Ungab comes to mind. She is the founder of Plastic Free Bohol and the creator of Marikit Swimwear, a crocheted bikini line that she makes by hand. Some of her friends lovingly call her the “Princess of Bohol” not only because of her commanding presence but also because of her relentless efforts to advocate for cleaner seas and more sustainable life choices.

All surfer girls will tell you this: they wish they could surf in something that understood their bodies so they could move better in the water. In the past months, our design team at Kudo Surf devoted their skills to creating a new surf suit that will let girls surf unhindered. Lucky for us, the suit was released just in time for Siargao’s monsoon season.
