Philippines Pro 2026: The Championship Tour Comes to Cloud 9

For years, the Championship Tour was something Filipino surfers watched from a distance, on laptop screens and phone livestreams. This year, it comes to them.

On July 1, the World Surf League announced Cloud 9, Siargao, as a new stop on the 2026 Championship Tour. The Philippines Pro, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, runs October 31 to November 10 — Stop No. 11 on the tour, and the first Championship Tour event ever held in the Philippines. That date range is the waiting period, not eleven straight days of competition — the actual heats run on a shorter window inside it, set day to day by conditions.

What's Different About This Stop

The Philippines Pro was upgraded from a QS 6,000 event to the tour's top level for 2026 and 2027. It's part of the WSL's three-event post-season, a reduced field competing for ranking points before the year closes at the Pipe Masters in December.

Twenty-four men and sixteen women make up the field. Round 1 is head-to-head: winners advance to Round 2 alongside the seeded surfers, then Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Final.

Three Filipino Spots

Three wildcard spots go to Filipino surfers. John Mark "Marama" Tokong — the four-time Siargao International Surfing Cup winner known as the King of Cloud 9 — already holds one. Two more go to the man and woman who win the Mayor Jaime Plaza Rusillon Cloud 9 Memorial Surfing Cup 2026, held at Cloud 9 October 12–19.

For a wave that's shaped generations of Filipino surfers, having three of its own compete on the world's biggest stage is the story behind the story.

How to Watch

Follow the official WSL Philippines Pro event page for the heat draw, results, and live coverage. WSL hasn't confirmed a livestream platform beyond its own event page as of this writing, so that's the best place to check as the waiting period nears.

Getting to Cloud 9

Fly into Sayak Airport (IAO); it's roughly 30–45 minutes by road to General Luna and Cloud 9. Visitors arriving by sea can come through Dapa Port. Motorbikes and e-trikes are the main way to get around the island.

Cloud 9 is a right-hand reef break, and an advanced one when it's solid, with sharp reef and strong currents possible. September to November is peak surf season, and reef booties are worth packing.
