International Women’s Day is a reminder that progress in surfing doesn’t happen alone. It happens in the lineup — through encouragement, shared waves, and women supporting women.

At Kudo Surf Boardriders (KSB), we’re proud to support local female surfers who lead not just through performance, but through presence, energy, and community impact. This year’s IWD theme, Give to Gain, reflects what we see every day in the water: when women lift each other up, the entire surf community grows stronger.

This International Women’s Day, we highlight local female surf athletes who embody the spirit of Give to Gain — women who actively support others in the water, and who know how powerful it feels to be supported in return.

Meet the Women Shaping the Lineup

Shela Mae Arjona

Cloud 9 native
Biggest achievement: 13th place, WSL Baler International Pro QS4000 (2025/26)

“I try to support other women by giving them confidence to take the wave.”

Known for her fearless energy in crowded lineups like Cloud 9, Shela Mae supports other women by encouraging them to commit — especially in high-pressure conditions. Her voice in the water reminds women that they belong, even on the busiest days.

“When women tell me ‘get this wave, girl,’ it changes everything. That’s when I feel supported.”

Mariel

Pacifico, Northern Siargao
Achievements: Multiple local longboard champion titles

“Support starts with good energy — cheering, sharing waves, and keeping the lineup positive.”

Raised on the shores of Pacifico, Mariel is a consistent presence in the local longboard scene. Her experience in competitions has shaped a mindset rooted in patience, discipline, and encouragement, and she actively supports more women to paddle out and compete.

“I feel supported when the lineup feels safe and respectful, and when people genuinely want each other to enjoy the session.”

Mariel prefers more coverage when she surfs, and she can often be found wearing a pair of Kudo Surf boardshorts

Daisy Dela Torre

La Union
Biggest achievement: WSL Baler International Pro LQS (2024/25)

“I support women by encouraging them to paddle out, even when they doubt themselves.”

Daisy leads through simplicity and strength. By encouraging women to paddle out — even when doubt creeps in — she helps build confidence that lasts beyond a single wave. She has also raised her daughter, Kaila Dela Torre, to follow in her footsteps as a young Filipina surf athlete and trailblazer.

“I feel supported when other women paddle out with confidence and good energy.”

Biggest achievement: Champion, WSL Siargao International Surfing Cup (2022/23)

“I support other women by sharing tips and helping them catch good waves.”

Raised by the barreling waves of Cloud 9, Nilbie is a respected longboarder and mother who balances performance with mentorship. She supports other women by sharing wave knowledge and confidence, while drawing strength from the encouragement of her family.

“I feel supported when my family cheers me on. That encouragement gives me confidence in the water.”

Dianne Nogalo

Catangnan, Siargao

“Support looks like cheering each other on and sharing waves.”

A young shredder trained by the waves of Cloud 9, Dianne has emerged as a fierce competitor on the global stage. Her support shows up through communication, encouragement, and awareness in the lineup — creating sessions where everyone feels seen.

Why This Matters

Supporting women in surfing isn’t just about representation — it’s about creating safer, more confident, and more connected lineups. When women share waves, communicate, and encourage one another, surfing becomes more accessible for everyone.

That’s the heart of Give to Gain.

At KSB, we’re committed to supporting female athletes not only for their achievements, but for the way they shape surf culture every day.
